Missoula's first space dedicated to the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® Opened by Kate Jordan in April of 2016, Kinetic Body Missoula is housed inside Main Street Pilates in Downtown Missoula, Montana. We offer private GYROTONIC® training sessions, and GYROKINESIS® group classes for adults of all ages and abilities. Whether for retraining or conditioning, this practice is designed to energize the body, focus the mind, and inspire the heart.
What is GYROTONIC® method? The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® is a fully integrated body conditioning practice. It is built upon the understanding th our bodies are meant to move, and that we can increase the functional capacity of our entire organism in a harmonious way. Intention is a driving force for each movement, as is our ability to lengthen outwardly while connecting inwardly. We seek to coordinate our movements with our breath, and allow the joints to decompress. This work can be practiced with a private trainer, in a group class, or independently. The Gyrotonic Expansion System is low-impact, and uniquely accessible to any individual. There are two branches of the work; the GYROTONIC® method and the GYROKINESIS® method. Gyrotonic method uses specialized equipment that provides guidance, resistance, traction and sensory feedback. Through multi-joint, circular motions, the equipment guides us away from our linear, everyday patterns. The circular movement training encourages endless reuse of our energy. Pairing of breath and motion deepens our sensory awareness, and quiets the mind. We build suppleness, fluidity, and ease in the joints. We build longevity, stamina, and coordination through the whole body. The Gyrokinesis method is the origin of the work, and a wonderful compliment to one’s Gyrotonic practice. In Gyrokinesis exercise we immerse ourselves in a series of gentle, continuous movements created to open energy pathways, increase movement range, stimulate the nervous system, and build strength. To many, a Gyrokinesis session feels more akin to a dance class than an exercise regimen. It requires no equipment, simply a stool and a mat.
